Well the other day I was chilling on a mattress i had on the floor next to my tank with the crayfish in and i heard a clunk and felt a splash,so I got up so find a missing cray took me 3 minutes to find him haha. Anyone else have any escapee stories?

When my moms sister lived her last years with my grandma and grandpa i forgot to put to cover on my 10gallon crayfish tank and he got out and this is 12:00am at night and she was on the computer doing some college stuff and she screamed and though we where being robbed but it was actually the crayfish crawling buy her toes and this is about 31/2 rooms away

haha

when i was a kid i had a cray in a tank in my room....it got out and made it down curved stairs threw hall, living room, kitchen and finely down in to the washing room
my mom found it covered in fuzz and alive the next day ^_^
..how it got past the cats and ferrets ill never know

so apparently crays are escape artists [as are many aquarium dwellers], and they get out a lot, but how exactly? is it mostly when you forget to put a top on or don't keep a top on? i'm just a little worried because i don't want mine to escape, lol. our room is a little bit of a mess right now and i'm just worried about being able to find her in a large house. the tank is only about two thirds filled, so there's about four or five inches from the water level to the top of the tank, and i keep one of those metal cage tops on the tank [the ones you can buy at petco or wherever, for reptiles and rodents and stuff] with a "monkey's fist" knot [one pound lead sinker about three inches round with rope wrapped around it; we bought it at cape cod this summer and apparently they're typically used on fishing boats] on the corner where the two wires for the filter and the heater come out [the only way she'd be able to climb to the top of the tank]. [okay, to sum up, without all the explanations: space between water level and top of tank, top on tank, and weight on the one possible escape corner]. i shouldn't be worried, right? i don't really wanna have to add my own story to this thread, lol. as cute as it sounds to see a little cray crawling across the floor :]

Oh boy, I better watch mine closley. No escaped yet but I do see them climb the filters.

my chihuahua/pom mix was chasing something across the floor and i screamed, i thought it was a large roach and i hate them, but no! it was my cray, scootin along. i put him back in the tank!
