OK here goes. I am a member of 2 different forums. I only comment or ask about sa/ca cichlids because thats all I have experience with. However, in the world of Aquaria we have certain responsibilities which separte us into fish keepers and fish havers. SO... In the last year or 2 I've been participating in these forums I have learned an awful lot about fish keeping, species compatibility and tons of fish i never knew existed.

now for the question... what do we do when a forum participant asking for our opinions rejects our advice and continues mistreating their fish? This question of mine came about after a young man asked what cichlids he could put into a 22 liter planted tank? This tank was already overstocked with 29 fish!!! :eek: :eek: :eek:

Species included: 12 "Sparkling Gouramis" (Trichopsis pumila), 11 "Pygmy Rasboras" (Boraras maculatus), and 6 "pygmy Cories" (Corydoras pygmaeus)

22Liter = 5.8 gallons = .206 gallons per fish.:WHOA:

When I (and the moderators) tried to explain the error, we were dismissed and told that overstocking is "crap" and that you can't overstock a tank if you change water once per week. I felt my face get red on the spot

What a frustrating scenario. I wanted to strangle the little creep. I can't help but feel responsible for straightening them out, but what do we do when they ask and then ignore the advice? Just sit back and do nothing???

I'd like to think there's a way to deal with such people, so I was wondering if anyone had any success doing something about it? Similar things happen in the stores all the time too. people mixing incompatible species and such, even after getting proper advice on BASIC fish requirements they should've looked up themselves in the first place

Had to vent so I hope some of you can relate. What are your opinions?

i have had the same experince with a few people, they ask a question, but becuase they don't want to hear the answer and hat there not treating there fish right, they make themselves feel better and tell you your advice is crap, ussally in stead of takeing that to the face from a little dickhead, i fire back my own immature insults. i sound like a dick, but it's fun as hell to outsmart them at there own game, but in all seriousness, there really isn't way to deal with them< if they don't wanna hear it they won't.

I just laugh and let it go there is nothing you can do not worth getting stressed over it....if they ask and you tell and they don't care then o well you tried its all you can do ...

I agree; I dont think there's much you could do with those kind of people. XR is right; there are alot of fish keepers out there that will ask for advise but as soon as they hear what they DON"T want to hear they they call you stupid and say that your advise is crap. Really what can you do about these people? Not a whole lot, so dont loose sleep over these fools.

When I first joined this site I too had alot of questions and have gotten some really great information; I have used most of the information given to me by some of our fellow members and have had no problems at all.

I would just ignore those types of people they are just a bunch of childish morons. Here's another one though what would or could we do about those few members that insist on "Flaming" members that are simply asking for some constructive criticizm.

we could find out were they live and steel their fish! :naughty:

yup Screw em is what I say. There are a couple people like that on here. I don't offer anymore advice to them. All I will do is post in the threads they post in to try and stop them from spreading misinformation.

not losing any sleep but thought you guys/gals might have a funny story or 2

there at as much funny as annoying stories, like large cichlids, saying he can keep a dovii pair in a 75, and just ignoring the experenced keepers, who know that, that won't work. now a day's he's keeping nile monitors, and other large things, that he won't be able to keep as adults, and he just comes to brag about it,.
