An experiment: Please define these "gun" terms

By "bullet" I assume you mean "round", "cartridge" or "ammunition"?

Bullets kill people. Rounds, cartridges, and ammunition do not. Neither does an M249 Squad Automatic Weapon. I'd be willing to bet that no one has died from that particular device. But I would imagine a few have died from the .223 "bullets" fired at a rate of 750 rounds per minute. Yeeehaw.

When did we jump from .22 to .223? And why are you talking about a M249 "Saw" machine gun? They've always been illegal to own.

Would you be opposed to the .223 semi-automatic weapons in this video?

I'd also be curious what you think of the .30-06 Springfield. Afterall, that particular round was developed by the military in 1906 to replace the .30-03 as a more lethal round at long distance.

More enemy soldiers have been killed by .30-06 than any other round in history. Would you be opposed to that round? Sorry for the 50 questions; I just would appreciate a different perspective than my own.

Donny, there are transferable M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) available for you or I to own. They are rare and expensive but legal non the less...prices are approaching $100K for a transferable M249 SAW.

Ok guys lets open it up. Ive heard some good and bad.

Gun Show Loop Hole: This is nothing more then a misnomer. In nearly ALL states the private transaction of firearms from person to person w/o a back ground check or anything else is completely legal. Background checks are only legally required when a person buys from a Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealer. Here the buyer fills out a form called a form 4473 and then the dealer calls the National Instant Check System (NICS) at the FBI if the buyer passes, they get the gun immediately in MOST states. Gun Shows consist mostly of FFLs. And again background checks from FFLs. Gun Shows are also places were PRIVATE PEOPLE can sell PRIVATELY with no check. This is however no different from me putting an ad in the newspaper and selling my guns that way. To summarize, ALL dealers require back checks, even at gun shows. Private sells do NOT require checks, never have, and its perfectly legal.

Assualt Weapon/Rifle, well BeBlondie hit the nail on the head. The STG 44 was the orignal assualt rifle. They are FULL AUTO and shoot a medium sized cartridge, larger then a pistol round but smaller then typical rifle rounds. The "assault weapon ban" had NOTHING to do with Assualt Rifles (see below)

The Assault Weapons Ban was nothing more then a feel good legislation to appease the sheep. It had NOTHING to do with Assault Rifles which are full auto. It was for SEMI AUTO ONLY. It limited rifles with detachable magazines (round count does not matter) to have no more then two of the following.

Pistol Grip
Threaded Muzzle
Folding Stock
Bayonet mount
Grenade launcher

So look at the pictures below. The one with the 75 round drum was LEGAL during the AWB and the one with the 30rnd mag was not. They both could hold the same number of rounds (mags or drums), they both had the same rate of fire, and the both were equally as lethal.

The ONLY difference is you can mount a bayonet and muzzle brake (reduces recoil but the effect is limited on semit auto rifles) on the first rifle.

So, as you can see, the AWB was pointless. After all how many crimes have been committed with a bayonet attached to a rifle?!

While you are correct, 30-06, like most calibers where first made for military use. However, it, by a LONG shot has not killed more people then any other caliber.

7.62x39mm has probably killed more people in conflicts around the globe.

Following the rules of OP exactly, I have not looked at any other posts, and I am responding immediately after reading the original post.

Gun show loophole - The rather shady (and almost definitely not done by lawful gun vendors) practice of using the lack of legislation on gun shows to allow individuals to obtain a gun without a 5 day background check. HOWEVER, no one ever says that they don't do a background check, just that there is no 5 day period. As far as I know, that may make this a non-issue, or this has already been taken care of and is no longer an extant practice at all.

Assault weapon - Basically anything semi- or automatic.

I will now read all the other posts and see how silly I probably am.

I served in the National Guard, fired the M16A2, qualified expert, enjoyed some hand grenades, M203 Grenade launcher, M60, etc. I was also in Field Artillery. It was all a blast. It was enjoyable. I love to shoot guns, but I would have to say that I don't need to own any of them to reinforce my freedom. Don't care if they ban the AR15, The "AK" or any of the other ones. They aren't useful to criminals or anyone else. These people use handguns. If they don't ban the AR15, I might own one someday. If you want to say that you don't want these bans because you enjoy them, that's fair enough. If you want to say that you need these guns to protect yourself, you are delusional. A .22 caliber handgun is great protection from intruders. I don't even have that. I have a Louisville Slugger and a cell phone. I'm not scared.

Reading the answers from OP now, I see I was missing information about the Gun Show Loophole topic, and on Assault weapons, I may have been wrong about semis.

Apparently the laws concerning the transfer of firearms between private individuals has a precedent in private automobile transfer. This makes perfect legal sense.

I'll always support firearms for subsistence hunting and keeping the King of England out of our face.

Ok, fun facts time. I read somewhere on this thread that "assault rifles/weapons" and "bullets" kill people. Well, I have a perfectly legal semi-automatic weapon with 10 rounds (complete with bullets) on me at almost all times. They've never killed anyone...

Unfortunately, my State doesn't keep statistics, but I know a state that does...

People who own guns legally (including assault weapons), and even more so people that CARRY HANDGUNS, are a remarkably law abiding sub-class of the population.

For example, take Florida. Florida has the best 2nd amendment rights interpretation in the country and spear headed all other states to adopt CCW (conceal carry weapon) permit laws known as "Shall-Issue" laws. They have MORE CCW residents than any other state. Lets look at some FACTS:

Since 1987 Florida has issued this many permits: 1,461,778
Since 1987 Flordia has revoked this many permits due to firearm crimes committed by CCW licensees: 166

Percentage: 0.00011% of CCW permit holders commit gun crimes in FL.

If people are really concerned about the dangers of criminals who illegally posses weapons, I personally think the media could do a better job driving home that point, and maybe you should consider buying a gun. I guess my rant is our media industry sucks.
