me and my friend were thinking. could you put a turtle in with some monster fish? say maybe an aro and some other similarly sized fish. i was thinking in a year or so that i could build on a tararium section to my pond. it would be a box. something like 7'x2'x?. i was thinking a soft shell turtle. this would be a ways off but i was just wondering.

You would be wasting your time with a sift shell they hardly ever come on land.

I would do N.America habitat with blue gills, bass, cats, and a couple red ear sliders. ;)

With any aquatic turtle, you have to be ready to find the heads of your fish floating on top of the water one day. I've had hatchling sliders take down two-inch sunfish.

A softshell would be cool though. They are highly aquatic and they tend to be flighty, but it'll get used to you eventually, especially if you feed it every time you come by. The softshells in the pond in the park in New Orleans will beg for food with the rest of the turtles. That was something to see...

Well if you want a soft shell turtle, your water must stay pretty low. Some fish might not like that to much.

I've heard of hatchling turtles taking down 6" Plecostomus'. Sorry to say it mate, but:
Turtles+fish = Fed turtle
There are a few exceptions, such as the FRT, but Softies will harass your fish until they die from stress or injury, as will most turtles.

It's not a requirement for softshells. Most of them live in places where the water gets pretty deep anyway. As long as it has a smooth rock or something it's fine.
