An undervalued and overlooked beauty

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are beautiful fish but i made the mistake of putting a GT and BA in the same tank at the same size. The BA dragged the poor GT around the tank by its pectoral fin, both were 3" ish at the time.
The 2nd I had tried to pick on my two much larger Uaru, so they tag teamed it. It didn't try again, they do seem quite intelligent.

I can't believe all these stories of killer BA's.
I think we can all agree tho that they are full of personality !

a 3" BA killed and ate my 24" Dovii . . . !

ok, JK :D

but I'm with you, my BA was never any trouble . . . cichlids, go figure

Nobody has ever had the patience to really grow one out, I wonder how big they actually get and how beautiful they can really be.

Even hybridisation - a BA and a Tex might make something quite beautiful or a BA Sev ???

What do u guys thing would be a good cichlid to cross with a BA to get a cool hybrid ?

Dear gawds no. They are one of the prettiest SA cichlids, why ruin them?

I've had two pairs over the years, the males were 5" and 6" SL. Largest male I've seen was 6.5" SL in a constant water change/drip system.

...so true

I didn't understand that post all . . . did you think the adult size of BAs was somehow an unknown? I had a BA for years, they get to about 5-6", not much more

about the only thing a BA would likely cross with is a GT or other acara species . . . hard to say what the point would be

i'll share my Blue Acara pair

My pair breed once a month, this is latest patch:

All pebbles were covered with eggs but their in a community tank so death is inevitable..

The pair are colour coded. Mum has a white dorsal fin and dad has red.
I always wonder what colour their offspring will have..:D
