An update on CWD

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What kind of uvb bulb are you running exactly. It might be a uvb problem. These guys need to eat every single day. No veggies they are carnivores when young. You can introduce veggies later. I think it might be a uvb problem. Feed as much as he will eat EVERY DAY! If you can't get crix every day use something else like mealworms or super worms. Wax worms should not be offered often they are fattening. What size tank is he in? What are his basking and cool side temperatures? What is his humidity? I believe he is in an unsuitable environment which is why he is not eating like he should.

I use repti-sun UVB I believe, I know it has UVB, I also take him outside on my shoulder for an hour or so every week. I do offer food everyday but he doesn't eat it. He was like this when I got him. Humidity is 65-80%, cool side is 75-80, basking I am not sure exactly. He has been in a 20lg so I can monitor him. I will be building a cage soon. I planned on a 3'x3'x3' for now. I know he will need bigger. I am more worried about his eye now though because he is gaining weight. I am going to breed super worms soon also. I constantly have them so he gets them, and I am getting crickets for him weekly now. He has been perking up and moving around more so I am happy about that. So turtle eye drops would work for the eyes? Also about the rep club, I can't make it to them. It's 30 minutes away. I will hopefully be getting my license soon so that will change.

eye problems in water dragons are usually caused by poor water conditions of his soaking bowl.
and yes, the turtle eye drops will work.

I think as a strategy, you'd be better off breeding crickets or roaches, since these should be the staple in general, instead of superworms. Depending on the actual eye problem, turtle eye drops might work when the CWD is lacking in Vitamin A.

i agree, also what kind of lizard is that in your profile pic,i feel like ive seen it somewhere but cant remember what it is

I won't breed crickets because of the smell. He will be upgraded to a 55 soon. His eye is shut and he never opens it, and looks slightly swollen. I have a small colony of Madagascar hissing roaches I want to breed but I haven't gotten lucky on getting a male yet, it's all females. I have no access to dubia roaches. So when I upgrade him I will try and order some online and try breeding them. I should be getting the turtle eye drops tomorrow so I will see if that works. If it is a low amount of vitamin A what should I add to his diet to fix this?

no offense, but maybe you should have researched a little before going out and buying a CWD. I totally i understand about your hate of crickets...but they are the major food for most lizards. you can also try superworms and mealworms...but they are high in fat. he/she really needs a basking spot of 95-110F this cab easily be done with a 100w spot like placed 10-12" above a log. basking is how they digest their food. not sure how you have setup a soaking bin for it, but he/she should be deep enough to sit in with just their head out of the water. a 6x3x2(hwd) would be better then the 3x3x3 cage due to the fact that these are arboreal lizards. good luck, i really this guy starts doing better.

this is a great read. http://www.triciaswaterdragon.com/dragoncr.htm

Please don't jump to conclusions. I buy crickets, I won't breed them. So I DO feed them. I know the 3'x3'x3' is to small for an adult. When he out grows it I will use it for a group of green tree frogs. I am only doing the 3' one because I do not have the room for a bigger one in my room right yet, so it will be outside my room which can't happen right away. I know they need a high basking temp. What is a good light? I am having an issue finding one, they keep blowing on me within a month. I did research. I always do. Look at my threads it proves I research before buying. The chinese just wasn't one I asked on here. I have wanted one for a year or so before I got him. I looked into them as much as possible before hand. He can soak, I have many things in my care and this is by far not my first reptile. I am sorry if I don't know everything about caring for them but no one is perfect and no matter what you will always be learning about them no matter how long you have kept them.
