Hi,

I bought some Anacharis and the pond snails have devoured all the leaves, only the stems remain. I have heard of snails eating decaying plant matter, and I admit, the anacharis leaves were in bad shape.

What I wanna know is, is it really true they will only eat the dying/decaying plant matter or should I expect them to finish the whole plant off? Ive had these snails for awhile, they never ate any moss or pennywort, although they bit holes into the pennywort. I also added some malaysian trumpet snails and want to know how anacharis and other plants apply to them as well. Im hoping the anacharis isnt a goner yet.

Thx

i never had a problem with pond snails and anacharis. maybe it was just in bad shape plus the transition period. holes tend to be lack of fert/light. most snails in the aquarium will only eat dead plant matter. if you are by long beach and your anacharis doesnt make it i have some you can have. it isnt a lot but it will get you started.
