I got one that we were holding while it was being transfered between zoos. It struck at anything that moved. After about a month of working with it, I was able to hold it without the need to have it's head in my hand.
Over all, captive hatched animals that are handled are pretty laid back for the most part. Wild caught ones I've had are pure terrors to deal with. Just don't get too comfortable with it at any point. We had three together on display at Dallas World - one male two females all of good size. I went in with a vile of alcohol in my pocket in case I did get bit. But I was comfortable enough to get in the water with them to clean.
The one I'm holding in the picture wasn't handled much at all when I got to that zoo. She was pretty good for the most part, but she did make the point that she was stronger than me a few times. I had to extract her from the final exhibit due to a filter problem. She was warm and fairly hungery (meaning super aggressive). Her head was just at the surface of the water pointed toward the door, and the back half of her was secured around a submerged log. I had to make a quick move for her head, and she pulled me into the water with her. Kinda of dangerous, but at the same time I managed to get out without hurting her or myself.
