Well think of it this way. It's kind of along the lines of going to a dentist for a tooth removal. Sure it won't be as stressful short term to avoid doing so but ignore the issue too long and it'll become even more stressful then going to the dentist is in the first place.
The point is if ya ignore the issue long enough it ain't going to go away on its own and in fact will get worse and worse the longer ya let it ride. Personally I'd just do the necessary treatment and just try to do it as quickly as possible.
They are mine, these parasites do really have a grip on their victims, while pulling one off, part of the caudal fin came off with it, but.....it grew back.
These are wild caught tetras so carrying parasites is quite common, but the yanking off adul tparasites, and also treating the entire tank with a salinity of over 3 ppt to kill emerging young Lernaea, has kept the tank parasite free for about 2 years
