So I noticed a tiny white worm hanging off one of my Rope Fish's upper lip one week, and just hoped it was a bit of debris (a "fluke", no pun intended). A week or two later it seemed like overnight my three rope fish had a half dozen each, more for the male. They were hanging off their faces like short, white beards. The worms were a few mm long, I swear some/all had split tips, and were distinctly white. They were pretty easy to see. This was two and a half weeks ago.

Sept 7 - Treat with a dose of Parasite Guard (contains praziquantel).
Sept 8 - Worms still mostly there, some tiny red sores on their faces.
Sept 9 - Worms mostly/gone, small red sores on their faces.
Sept 15 - 25% waterchange and second dose. Sores are long gone.
Sept 22 - 25% waterchange and third dose. Everything seems normal.

My ropes were the only ones showing the worms, none on my bichir, pair of busy-nose plecos and breeder net full of guppy fry (temporarily allocated there until I realized what was sharing a tank with them...). There had been no new allocations to the tank other than the addition of the guppy fry and one of the plecos three days prior. My ropes haven't had any behaviour, appetite, or other physical changes other than the small, temporary sores and some harmless tail-nipping between the two females. Out of my 8 aquariums, no other worms can be seen.

Question is... it's two and a half weeks later, two weeks after the worms were gone and slightly less than two weeks since the tiny red sores disappeared. Should I start considering them safe, or should I continue being paranoid/cautious?

According to this, treatment is several weeks (~30days)

This is very helpful, thank you. I was very distressed when I was told by a knowledgeable source that I'll never really know if I'm free of them. I'm thinking that if the systems (tank) can be cleared by removing fish for a week, I'll quarantine every fish from their home and treat them using salt or something (I don't think the article made clear how to kill the adults, I'll have to read it again).

Thanks again :)

Although the article has mentioned that these things can infect amphibians. My paranoia has doubled now for my frogs and siren in other tanks. :(

I think you should pm aquanero for his opinion.

Sounds like Macrogyrodactylus polypteri. Replied to PM.

What about Macrogyrodactylus simentiensis

Macrogyrodactylus simentiensis are Monogenetic trematodes(skin and gill flukes)
any of the meds listed should be able to eliminate the problem.
parasite guard
parasite cure
Prazi pro
Formalin
Metronidazole (Flagyl)-Anne

0.3–2 mm long hair like?
Jungle's "Parasite Guard" is now my anti-parasite med of choice for most bichirs....used at 3/4- ful dosage,it did a fantastic job of making parasites disappear for good, and did not harm my bichirs at all [note, this was used on adult and sub-adult bichirs, and has not been tested on babies....for babies, I have used a formalin solution ("Quick Cure") at full dosage with good results and no ill effects."Quick Cure", a formalin-based med works reasonably well at full dosage over a ten-day treatment, but I have been getting far quicker and better results with Jungle brand's "Parasite Guard" used at 3/4-full dosage for a single treatment
