So I noticed a tiny white worm hanging off one of my Rope Fish's upper lip one week, and just hoped it was a bit of debris (a "fluke", no pun intended). A week or two later it seemed like overnight my three rope fish had a half dozen each, more for the male. They were hanging off their faces like short, white beards. The worms were a few mm long, I swear some/all had split tips, and were distinctly white. They were pretty easy to see. This was two and a half weeks ago.
Sept 7 - Treat with a dose of Parasite Guard (contains praziquantel).
Sept 8 - Worms still mostly there, some tiny red sores on their faces.
Sept 9 - Worms mostly/gone, small red sores on their faces.
Sept 15 - 25% waterchange and second dose. Sores are long gone.
Sept 22 - 25% waterchange and third dose. Everything seems normal.
My ropes were the only ones showing the worms, none on my bichir, pair of busy-nose plecos and breeder net full of guppy fry (temporarily allocated there until I realized what was sharing a tank with them...). There had been no new allocations to the tank other than the addition of the guppy fry and one of the plecos three days prior. My ropes haven't had any behaviour, appetite, or other physical changes other than the small, temporary sores and some harmless tail-nipping between the two females. Out of my 8 aquariums, no other worms can be seen.
Question is... it's two and a half weeks later, two weeks after the worms were gone and slightly less than two weeks since the tiny red sores disappeared. Should I start considering them safe, or should I continue being paranoid/cautious?
