Ancient fish...?????

Yeah, their need to filter feed is rather greatly exaggerated, they will pretty much swallow small fish and crustaceans at will. They need a really large tank to even come close to being healthy long term. Really interesting fish, I like them second only to sturgeon.
 
could they survive in an outdoor pond in North alabama. They are endangered here and live in some of the rivers but was wondering if they could survive in a large pond
 
They have high DO requirements. If your pond is a dug out farm pond with a high bank, there may not be enough aeration to sustain them. A friend of mine has 4 large farm ponds on his property. He has paddlefish in one of his 2 ponds with wind-assisted aerator towers. They seem to be doing fine.
 
That would be awesome to have a big pond with them in it , what would you go about feeding them if you got them when they are little ?
