Thanks but he's still a little more shy than I would like. .I've been keeping the tank lights low.added more plants.hes come around some.but I went through the same thing with my male jag.just a matter of time.

I've had the dovii over a month now still shy.ive tried dithers. He would chase them once in awhile the go straight back in to his driftwood. I've added a patch of plants for him to swim through. He Doesn't use them.ive kept the lights completely off for days on end as well.hes not stressed, showing good colors when he does come out. Eating fine . parameters are ammonia 0 nitrite0, nitrate 10-20.if I took away his hiding spot would it help or hinder any progress?

What ditherers did you try mate ? You could throw a couple of convicts in the to give him something to think about ? Ditherers with attitude lol :D
The only reason I say this is mines out all the time competing for tank space in my grow out with the other cichlids so its got to stay active ATM

mine was shy untill he hit teh 7-8 inch mark, i took away all his hiding places and just put some big rocks as decoration jsut so he got use to me
 
I had 10 black skirt tetras(they weren't as big or fast as I thought, he ate them all) and 2 silver dollars (he killed 1 of them).I will try taking out his driftwood and see how it goes

Fish are looking good mate , im just setting up my new satellite leds pretty impressed for far there bright man (compared to my old home made ones ;) ) , the blue lights make a hell of a difference when you've got loads of cats they come out to play under nightlights
Your dovii is looking a lot less shy mate he'll soon be don of the devil lol , mines taking over my grow out mouth locking with the larger umbee daily but not big enough for the jars tank just yet :D
