I've bought about 12 angels, all from different stores. I have 3 left. When they died, they were not bloated, no sign of parasites or disease or infection. The guy at the lfs said there was some kind of "angel flu" type thing going around here in South FL. Any one have any info????

:help2::shakehead:WTF::feedback:

Years ago (you young kids)
there was a virus going around (early 80's)
that did kill an incredible number of angels and discus...

the symptom was the fish would produce massive amounts of skin slime
and then shed it in disgusting gooey blobs
...it made it look like the fish was filleting itself...

the virus almost certainly developed in South East Asian fish farms
and possibly Florida Fish farms (where else?)..

historically this made the price of local home raised angels go back up to where it was
profitable to breed them yourself

...eventually I think what happened
is that all the angels (and discus) that could die of this virus, did die
and the survivors developed natural immunity
(similar thing is happening now I hope with the Koi Aids that was real bad 10 years ago,
but quite rare know)

so, I don't know if you are just having bad luck
or if there is a new virus going around

I checked the water parameters, they are fine. No white stringy poop, no excessive slime, NO SYMPTOMS of ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is killing me because now I'm afraid that if I buy more, that they're all just gonna die! :wall: I'm so frustrated with this. One fish from each store lived. I bred angels about 15 years ago and this never happened. So it's not like I'm new to them.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?:irked:

Never heard of an angel flu.

Were they captive bred angel's or wild variety's?

You never saw any white stringy poop come out of them?

Captive bred, and eating fine....:irked:

Weird.

It could be gill flukes, in younger fish they'll kill them before they start to display crazy flashing behaviors.

I really don't have any advice, if I were you I'd try to find private breeders whose stock has been isolated and bred from healthy angels.

If that won't work then my only other suggestion would be to run all of the standard rounds you should with wild caught fish...

Formalin dip, metro treatment ect.

Check with simplydiscus.com on proper treatment of wild caught fish, their medication/disease forum is crazy in depth and some of the members are vets that sale medications you can normally only get through a visit to the vet.

I agree find some breeders in your area and try those. I have always had better luck that way.
