Angel/ Gourami Compatability

Does anyone keep angels and gouramis together? I have 2 angels, one regular and one veiled, each over 5" long. I've read around and seen that some gouramis will pick at fish with longer, flowing fins. Is this true of all species, or a select few? My angels are in a 34H with an ABK (6") and a skirt tetra.

Also, where do I find female gouramis? I've looked in every LFS around and can't seem to find a single female gourami.
 
What species of gouramis are you looking for? Female dwarf gouramis are seldom avaiable lately due to Asian fish farms lacing foods with hormones to change their sexes and enhance their colors. The downside is this leads to high mortality rates as the hormones appear to leave the fish prone to bacterial infections, etc.

The part about gouramis nipping long flowy fins is true in most species but not all species are like that. The only gouramis I'd mix with angelfish are pearl gouramis. They're just as big and are elegant and peaceful.
 
Hi.. I've had a group of pearl gouramis in with my adult koi long veil with no problems whatsoever.. Don't think I would trust a spot, giant or dwarf with angels fins tho. HTH Sue
 
I've kept angels with both honey, dwarf, and pearl gouramis in the past without incident. Deffinately stay away from any version of the two spot gourami though (3 spot, blue, gold, platinum, ect).
 
I picked up 2 pearl gouramis today. Does anyone have photos of female pearls? I've never seen a female gourami of any species.
 
I had 3 Angels in with 4 Opaline gourami's for almost 2 years and there were never any problems. Now have 4 Angels with only 1 Honey Sunset, and I still have never had any problems. The gouramis I've had have all been very peaceful and non-territorial. I can't speak for the Gold ones my X bought. Had 1 big male and 2 small females and the male picked on EVERYTHING in my tank.
