Angelfish Aggressive Toward Each Other

Hello all,

I have a 55 gallon tank with not to much in it, but I have a large angel about 5/6" that I know is a female from multiple egg lays. I just grew out another angel, maybe about 4" that I moved into the 55g. For about a week they were fine, with the smaller one following the larger. Just today I noticed all of the larger angels fin's are frayed. Watching the fish more closely the smaller angel is very aggressive towards the larger. They stay on separate sides of the tank, with the smaller occasionally coming over to nip at or scare the larger.

So my question is if I should give it a little more time and maybe it will even out, or if I should separate them. I also heard adding another 1 or 2 may minimize aggression. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a white veil and a koi in my tank and after a while we added a zebra which was a bit smaller. the first few days were fine but they eventually just sat in the corner at the top getting aggressive with each other. some fin nipping and general aggresion but after about a week i guess one had asserted itself as the dominent angel and now they are fine together, just took a bit for them to get used to each other.

If you end up adding another angelfish add 2 or 3. don't add just one, in my opinion. 3 is a bad number. 2 will gang up on the other. I would add 2 or 3, eventually a pair will form and at that time you should sell or give away the others. As the pair will be territorial, especially during breeding (if they breed).
