I just recently setup a 12gal Angelfish QT tank and I've been loosing angels left and right. The water looks clear so I don't undertand why they dying. Temp is at 80F and running a filter with bio balls. Are angelfish that hard to acclimate or am I just unlucky with them? The store had the angels with discus and owner swear by how healthy the angels are since he has them with expensive discus.

Clear water does not mean your water quality is okay. Get API liquid test kit and determine your ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. What strain of angels did you buy? Don't buy fish if you never cycled that tank as these are unable to handle presence of ammonia and nitrites. Try to transfer established filter media from your old tanks to that quarantine tank.

Pearlsclae silver and possible peruvian gene. very beautiful fish but also very weak. I lost all four and tank is just running with no fish right now.

I had this experience too all of my 5 died and the koiangel counter part all lived :screwy:

I agree Angels will not tolerate a new tank. Be Patient and cycle first I know how hard it is to look at an empty tank in the beginning but is is worth it unless you have a lot of $ to spend on new Angels . If you want good quality Angels buy directly from a breeder preferably one in your area so that the water will be close to yours , Angels are hardy with the exception of a few strains.

Check your water parameters. Transfer the old filter media as I suggested earlier. Your ammonia and nitrites should not be detectable.

I know this is a retarded questions but.... did you check the ammonia and nitrate levels? A new tank will have crystal clear water, but still high in ammonia and nitrates.
