Angelfish Fins Being Nipped

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright so I have been watching the tank really closely the last couple days and I have seen my mollies, platys, swordtails, and siamese algae eaters nip at the angelfish so I obviously need to separate them but I have a problem. I have two tanks, a 10 and a 20. Now I can put the 10 on the stand below the tank my angelfish are in, but I know the 10 is probably too small for all the fish I would need to transfer. Now I would prefer to setup the 20 for them but I really don't have anywhere to put it. I could put it on the floor but I am worried about it cracking and leaking. I also have a dresser that feels pretty sturdy but I just don't know how to tell if its sturdy enough and if it were to fall it would fall a long way and its near my bed so I would be at risk if it fell at night. Finally, I am purchasing a 55 gallon tank form craigslist and I might be able to put it in that stand but I have no clue because I haven't seen the stand yet. So I honestly do not know what to do, Any suggestions?

Thanks

if your getting a 55. start your angels in it and the pleco. just have an angel tank with some other fish that wont nip. keep the 45 for the mollies and those other fish. your angels should be able to fully develop in the 55.

Well if it comes down to priorities I will take the molies and such to the pet store and make the 45 an angel only tank, but I would prefer not to have wasted the 40 dollars on those fish

makes sense. i thout you were purchasing the 55 for those fish to have a bigger tank. i kinda speed thru the last part too fast. sorry

Hey no problem, is there a way to test to see if my dresser could hold it. Here is what I did I put the tank up there and basically I could barely fit a note card below the center of the tank but not on the edges so the wood is slightly bowed but only barely (enough to put the notecard under it) then I added water and it didn't change what I could have put under it, so it didn't add any bowing to the wood. As a whole the dresser is very sturdy but the top is a piece of wood that is placed into a depression in the top so that it is level to the outer edge of the dresser (I hope that makes sense.) So that means that his board is only being supported by 1/2 inch of wood on each side that is connected to the rest of the dresser and then has 1/2 inch strips running down the side of the dresser for more support, I am sure that doesn't make sense to anyone but I don't know how to describe it. Also I would be worried about the wood warping from the water. Any other thoughts?

maybe post a pic of the desk with the tank on it. its hard to judge it without seein it. hopefully someone else can join in on this too so we have a few opinions
