Hello everyone!

I've started a 40 gallon tank and I'm thinking of putting some angelfish in it. I always wanted neon tetras, but I don't think they go along with angelfish, do they?
Also, can pearl gouramis go with angelfish?

I've seen it done, but I wouldn't do it. out in the wild neons are food for angel fish.
it might work as long as the neons are bigger then the angelfish, and once the angel fish get bigger then the neons. move the neons or angels to another tank. pearls should be able to go with angel fish.

How about Cardinal Tetras instead? I wouldn't do Angels in this size tank unless they were a breeding pair. I've had them fight in my 110 when I tried to add to the pair I have. But Cardinal Tetras look much like Neons, and they grow a little larger, so even if you got them all as small fish, the tetras would grow as the Angels grow, and have a better chance of not becoming lunch.

Angels are ambush predators. They do not rely on speed. They will destroy much smaller fish whether they fit in there mouth or not. They will pick apart Cardinals or Neons one by one. I know this from experience.

I've had a pair of fairly large Angels in with my tetras (cardinal, rummynose, penguin), as well as hatchets, for at least a year with no problems. Not saying it will never happen, but it's safer than neons. Of course, they're in a heavily planted 125. Maybe that makes a difference -- but the angels seem to ignore everyone but each other.

Gourami can be housed with angels, and neon tetras would be ok as long as they don't fit in the angel's mouths. I think that neon tetras would work with long fin fariations af angels, they are much faster.
i have had neons and angels together no prob. i second this quote

I've had neons with angels for quite a while and hadnt had problems with my angels or any fish, I guess it could be pulled off as long as the terrain is best for getaways.
