Angels or Denison barbs with rams?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd go with angels! When full grown they will be amazing in there. I have a 60gal with 2 discus, 3 rams, 3 angelicus botia, 5 peppered cories and a couple algae eaters and the mix of sizes gives a great look!

The discus always want to look at me, never let me get a good side shot! LOL

And by the way, that second picture, the side shot, is absolutely gorgeous! Can I ask what you paid for each of your discus?

I have 3 rams, 5 angels, 10 rummynose, and 10 cories in a tank. They all thrive in the same conditions and fill different roles. And my breeding Bolivian rams have no problems with the cories.

So here are pics of the tank. It was heavily planted, but I picked out some poor low light plants (I'm new to keeping live plants) and had to remove a bunch of dead and dying plants. I am going to pick up some more Thursday when I get paid. There are also more some squatters in my tank. LOL When I bought the 55 I used for my juvenile severum tank, it came with several fish. I haven't had a chance to take them down to my LFS for store credit, even though they aren't worth much.

I really would love to keep discus. Anyone here keep them that might shed some light on how temperamental they really are? I am seriously considering saving up some money and taking the plunge. LOL

Me, too! According to my research their difficulty level is along the lines of the FW ray so decided againt it and went for angelfish instead. I'll be adding a shoal of 20-50 Denison barbs in my 250 gallon with 10-15 angelfish. Your tank is better off with Denison barbs, though.

How difficult is it to maintain your discus? I have heard some say its no worse than other sensitive fish like German blue rams, but others say its a nightmare of daily 50%+ water changes. Honestly I want discus so very bad, but the price combined with the LFS's crappy return policy and the stories I hear make me super leery of buying any.

I read that having less than 4 discus will result in violence amongst their ranks. Do your two beat on each other at all?
