Another 600 gallon build thread

Klee Right now their teeth are smaller than the liner is thick but i am -very- concerned about that behavior occuring. However i never saw them touch the cord to my heater yet in the 50. I am trying to minimize creases but i confess i am having a lot of issues and there are going to be some folds. I am thinking of options to keep them away from the liner like weed barrier or something but they'll be going in there as is for now cause its the only humane option for keeping them

Now I'm thinking i could anchor some kind of underwater net like plastic chicken wire (of course finer would be preferable) in the middle, with a few inches on all sides. Then i could even have fish small enough that the pacu could eat them, because the fish would have a place to escape to? Bad idea? There is of course a concern about the pacu getting caught / injured but I'm not sure that they would.

yea i know what you mean...I built a new pond since then and havent transferred my fish over yet. I refuse to move the pacu to the new pond. But what about egg crate? it would be stronger and uglier lol than the plastic chicken wire. dont know what to do yet...let me know what you come up with

Its up and running. I need a staple gun. (and a better camera, sorry peeps) I've screwed the liner into the wood on all sides. I created a Little Splash guard on the bucket filter made out of pond liner. I didnt go with a storage bin filter. I have too much flow. It was tearing up my polyfil so for the moment I have pretty crappy mechanical filtration. I need to get a smaller pump. I've been burned before with head stats on QuiteOne pumps but the Tetrapond is all powerful... too powerful.

The pacu love their new home, they were slamming into the sides on the 50g now they swim around all natural like. They like to stay with Eachother. I just hope I find a way to keep them from biting a hole in their house before they grow bigger teeth. They happily eating cichlid pellets.

Theres chicken wire on top, i've zip tied it at the seams (thats that row of green things you can barely see in my pic) as well as zip tied it to the screws that are holding the top of the liner. Now its cat proof in case the cats decide to try to go fish, they will get wet but they wont fall through to the pond nor can they get under the chicken wire and drown.

Oh another consequence of the overpowered pump is i'm concerned about hearing damage from the water. I'm wearing my headphones that have a lot of padding right now but I'll need to buy earplugs and eventually a lower pump for sure.

1500 Watt "pond heater". (baseboard heater) it's now set to 75 degrees with any luck i wont have to run any heaters in my tanks or pond.

I covered the pond with a .7 mil painters cloth hopefully that will eliminate evaporation until i get a dehumidifier.

Made it through a cold rainy night, my glass windows of the bedroom aren't even damp.. The .7 mil drop cloth is doing its job. Will do a water quality test tomorrow and see how the bio-filter is doing.
