Yes i do have a baby alligator and I'm well aware of how big they get he is in a 55g tank now i will soon build a nice enclosure as he grows to big for his tank. alligators are legal in some states. When he gets to big to house or feed I will be faced a very hard decision, ether donate him to a zoo or farm or cut him up and make some thing from the hide and eat the meat. But this thread is on fish not my little baby. I mite post a thread about my little guy later when i update his enclosure. More comments on the fish are greatly appreciated.

for someone claiming to care about your "little baby", your backup plan or either hope some zoo will take it (probably won't) and cutting it up for hide and meat isn't particularly well thought out

15" gator still on goldfish?
15" gator in A 55 GALLON TANK?
Do you not care for the fish or are you just plain stupid?

A 15" alligator gar should not be fed goldfish in every meal, goldfish from regular fish stores are likely to have diseases and may get your gator sick or even kill it. If you put all your goldfish in a tank before for a few days to ensure they dont have a disease then that is better.
BUT a 15" gator can easily be trained to eat market shrimps or bloodworms, both would be better, also mysis and krill would be brilliant. This fish should be fed many varieties of food so it will grow normally, get a better and stronger colour and just feel better.

If you were taking good care of this fish you would be growing him out in a 200-500g tank by now and be READY with a large pond.

Somebody call peta or just slap him with bacon please!

...For the convicts: Isolate a pair and let them take care for the fry themselves.

No, no. Not an Alligator Gar. Just plain Alligator.

Not a fish, a reptile.

Look at his sig for more detail.

your right it isn't very thought out. But i have been talking to a guy who owns a reptile exhibit and he say if i work with him and keep the gator in perfect condition he will buy my gator once he is to big for me to care for.
Thanks for the help with the cons. i had 2 pair lay eggs but they ate the eggs before they hatched.

Mate you shoulda just said you want to breed some convicts for feeders and not mention the alligator.

Anyways i say leave the parents in there once all the fry are free swimming take the convicts out. Just freed the fry and you can see how fast they grow.
