Doing water changes
Ok So in my 240 i have cloudy water ive upped the water changes to 2-3 a week of 50% or so. But the water is still couldy i do have alot of driftwood in there but the water isnt turning a tea color its just like a white murky color. I dont overfeed just enough for them to finish right away. Tested the water and everything is good ammonia nitrite nitirate everything is at zero except for nitrites which is at 10ppm. Can someone help me out here? all my tanks are crystal clear looks like thi fish are floating not swimming but fro some reason i cant get this one to clear up. I even did 3 water changes this weekend to help out but its still a little cloudy.

My water in my 125 has just began to get cloudy as well. I don't have driftwood though. Everything is good as far as water quality.

I know how you feel ive even added Carbon to the filter this weekend it seemd to help a little but its nowhere near my other tanks. I just cant pinpoint what is causing this

I'm going to guess your test kits are bad. Your nitrates should not be 0 unless you have some form of nitrate transport. If your nitrites actually are 10ppm, then there is your problem. That is extremely high, and is very lethal to fish. Have you had your filters on the tank for a good amount of time, and what type of filters do you have? Have you done any filter maintenance lately, and if so, what did you do?

Check the flow rates on your filters, they could be clogged.

I had this problem recently as well. I have some big fish in a slightly overstocked 75g (2 x 6" Sevs and 1 x 8" Oscar)

Also, I recently added some of the fine floss to my Eheim 2217 as well as a powerhead towards the bottom to keep waste suspended and then removed by the filters. That coupled with religious water changes and light feeding keeps the water clear and the nitrate levels below 10ppm.

After i posted this i realized my test kits is a bit old so im gonna take my water to get tested and get a new test kit if its different. But I meant Nitrates sorry i always mix those up when im typing. Theres an FX5 with establiched BIO media. Then when i set up the tank a couple months ago I added a 29 gal sump half filled with bioballs and and AC500. Ive maintinenced the filters as needed (last week)typicall its just rinsing them off with tank water when i do a water change and replacing any that are to old and just clog up to easily.

Nitrite can't possibly be 10 ppm.

IMO your level of filtration is a bit on the low side for a 240. The FX5 is a great filter but should be reserved for mechanical filtration. A single HOB isn't going to cut it. Two emporer 400's in addition to a pair of Hydro 5's is closer to what you need. The AC110 is a good reliable filter as well but it lacks the bio-capacity your tank needs at the moment.

Thanks for the concern guys

but the 10ppm was a typo Ewurm

Wolf3101 there is also a 29 gallon sump on the tank half filled with bio balls I think that shoul dbe good with the other filters

I am assuming your nitrite is 1.0 ppm then, you should add prime after a water change.
