IMO your level of filtration is a bit on the low side for a 240. The FX5 is a great filter but should be reserved for mechanical filtration. A single HOB isn't going to cut it. Two emporer 400's in addition to a pair of Hydro 5's is closer to what you need. The AC110 is a good reliable filter as well but it lacks the bio-capacity your tank needs at the moment.

I would skip the emperors and do two AC110's in addition to the FX5. The AC's should have carbon until the params are good.

for filtration it has an FX5 an AC110 and a 29 gallon sump half filled with bioballs.

So i should add carbon t help with the cloudiness?

The cloudy appearance could be one of many reasons. The most likely is an excessive amount of ammonia/nitrite. Your filtration sound adequate, depending on your stocking. How are you keeping your nitrates down to 10ppm? Are you using a nitrate transport, or doing OUTRAGEOUS amounts of water changes?

What is your stocking level like, and what percentage are the water changes. Either you have a very light stocking, or your nitrate kit is bad too.

the water changes i do are atleast 50% more like 70% and i always add prime and leave the airstones on before i turn the filters back on.

Its light since everyone is small still under 5 inches but i got Green Terror Red Terror Dempsey Red Mota Loiselli Jag Salvini 5 clown loaches.

Aro and Jardini 8-12 inches

2 oscars 12 inches.

Before the flaming starts this is not a permanment home these fish will be spread out into other tanks you see in my sig

The sump will be good for the bio but your complaint is cloudy water and it looks to me as if this is more of a problem with your mechanical filtration than the bio. another ac110 with 1 sponge and the rest floss might make all the differance in the world. You could also move some of the established media from the FX5 to the sump and add a fine polishing sponge to the FX5 in its place.

Here are some pics to see if they help. I got a fron shot i semi close up and then a shot looking from one end. I cant even see my overflowbox thats about half way down

oops

Iv played with polishing pads in the FX% and the sump and it really just meant more maintenance for me. The tank has been set up for Id say atleast 6 months if that matters. Im just totally stumped since no matter what i do it still gets cloudy.

SO i switched out all the filter pads in the FX5 with new ones and added carbon hoepfully when i get home there will be a difference
