Another DIY wet/dry

i think the only flaw i see, is ur egg crate on the sides of ur filter padding and bio pot scrubbies. it doesn't "force" the water down through it, if ur filter pad was to say get a lil messy water wont flow through as easily n look for other ways of letting gravity pull it down thus going out the sides through ur egg crates which would equal less filtering and dry bio media. unless im missing something when i look at ur pics.
 
I thought the same thing, but the more I thought about it, the more I convinced myself that it doesnt matter. If I had a peice of glass there, and the prefilter got clogged, it would just run between the glass and the biomedia, so its basically the same thing. I have kept a close eye on it, and I have never seen water escape from there. I figured if it did it would be easy to slip a peice of plexi in there.
 
If I may make a suggestion about the two pumps...

In the event that one of the pumps fails, the other will pump much of it's water back through the failed pump. This kinda eliminates the security you get from redundancy. I'd suggest two check valves after each pump, before the T. That way if either pump fails, the check valve should keep most of the water moving up into the tank.

Nice setup.

Very good call. I'll look into installing check valves right away.

Uh.....

Judging by the flow direction that the pipes are aiming that should not be a problem...
