I'm new to natives. I've been wanting to keep natives for a while but had no easy acquisition. My LFS is supplied by Sunpet. Sunpet sent feeder comets with this guy in the batch. I think I have narrowed it down to two species, but being new to panfish, I really don't know. Have at it you guys!

Yup it is a green sunfish.

Have fun with him. These little guys do well with aquarium life. I would venture to guess he will be eating from your fingers in a week if you're willing to train him.

How do you train these guys? I really like having him already. He's about 2.5 to 3 inches long right now. And I have him in a 125 gal.

Has anyone kept greens with long- ears or pumpkinseeds?

Give them food and they'll learn to love you :). A 125 is more than big enough for a single green, you could probably keep it with longears as long as you're careful. Male teens can be very aggressive and can get to 12" white females are less aggressive and get about 8".

Sunfish get the whole begging for food thing fairly quickly, they recognize you as a source of food, doesn't take long.
