I have a 135g tank that I already have an FX5 for. I plan on keeping like Convicts, Sevs, Salvini, JD in that size range, not huge fish. Should I be looking at another FX5 for filtration or would I be ok with a HOB either an Emperor 400 or Aqua Clear 110 along with the FX5.
I'm running a FX5 on a 125 gallon with good amout of CA/SA and I just clean mine after 2months and was impressed with how clean it was. It would hurt to have two pumps but I would go with another FX5 as stated. Everytime I see a FX5 I go crazy I love the pump so much that I want more!
Id save the cash and go with the ac110. I got an eheim canister and an ac110 and the water stays very pure. The ac110 sponges help keep the canister cleaner and are really easy to clean out. This will save you money and you will have to break down your canister much less often. I would run two sponges and the bio max on the aquaclear.
As stated above if cost is of no concern then obviously go with the mighty fx5
put a prefilter on the fx5 and you will only have to clean it out like once a year.. throw an ac110 on there or maybe even a powerhead on a sponge filter..
