Protomelas sp. 'steveni taiwan' from Taiwan Reef
IMO, Looks like a "juiced up" group of Tiawan Reefs. A lot of tiny males showing premature adult coloration.
Yep,it's been some years since I've kept them but they look like Taiwan Reefs to me!
I don't know much about "juicing up" but they have quite huge eyes compared to their bodies. They might be older than their size indicates.
"Juiced up" in aquarium lingo means
juvenile fish artificially infused with hormones.
Certain vendors use this practice, which prematurely colors up fish, as to increase sales.
The false coloration is often temporary.
Many of the "juiced" fish I've bought eventually had health problems & shortened lives.

Really interesting. I wonder why I have never heard about it here in Germany or even in the EU.
I couldn't figure out if it is legal here.
German breeders & hatcheries have a great reputation regarding quality stock.
I don't think the major USA Hatcheries participate in "juicing" either.
