Hi,

I know these threads go up all the time but i saw this Jaguar at my local pet shop and wondered if anyone could give me an idea on the sex. I think its female but that could be wishful thinking on my part as i'm looking for one.

Its a lot more colorful than my jag, it seems to be quit dark think its because of the black background i added

So if i bought this jag and added it to my tank, how much trouble would i get assuming my original fish is a male and the new one is a female?

I worried about causing a fight in an otherwise peaceful tank.

If they pair up and there are other fish in the tank, watch out. Especially if they spawn, they will decimate anything in that tank, at least thats what mine did. Mine would even charge me at the glass and bite at the gravel vac once they laid eggs

I picked her up from the shop today, she is in a quarantine tank atm. Whats the best way to introduce them? Looking at them side buy side she is about an inch smaller than my original jag.

Don't leave them first 24hrs together slowly introduce them with a divider let them get used to each other , I made the mistake of putting a female straight in with my male after bit of a scrap they calmed down so I made the stupid mistake in thinking they'd be fine , next morn she was dead (or as good as ) , im currently growing another female up for a second go :D

Many cichlids will change colors, go lighter and darker with mood.also as they get used to a new tank.female...I think.X2 with using a divider for introducing.I would also re-arrange the whole tank decor when you put in divider
