another java moss question?

i'm looking at getting some java moss to try in my tanks i would like to eventually cover some of my drift wood and rocks.
i have a empty 10 gallon i am going isolate what ever i get in and while that is going on i would like to seed it on a couple piece of lava rock.

so my question is whats the best way to go about this and get the fastest growth out of it?

i was thinking of putting the tank in my sun room but would this cause a algae bloom have direct sunlight for part of the day?

should i have the tank filled or only enough to cover the rocks? i have also seen where some tanks get started where the plants are just kept moist then submerge latter, i think its so you can put more light with out getting algae bloom but don't know if im right about that or if it works for java moss?

In my experience, it grows best if you tie it to something. I scratched up a piece of pvc pipe then tied it on with thread and it's growing like crazy. Then I have some that's not tied to anything and it doesn't really grow that well.

so i grabbed a ziplock bag full and tied it to some rocks. i have them sitting in a 10 gallon i set up today with only a power head for some current and a heater. this is temporary till they take hold and show some growth. it is in my sun room so it will get indirect sunlight and there is the tank bulb.

now what should i do? i did not worry about cycling the tank because i have no intention of adding fish to this tank. i have some iron fertilizer i could add but don't want a algae bloom?

Java moss, at least for me grows with very little extra work. It doesn't grow particularly fast, but with low light, it's been my most successfully stable plant. Great for fry hiding, looks great when it fills in and gets trimmed. All depends on what you're trying to achieve.

i have read it is hard to kill but i want to try and get the most growth out of it while i can in this smaller tank.
the rocks will be moved back to the 300 where i hope the moss will cover a rock pile and i may try to get some to take to my drift wood as well. the 300 is low light i think, i have 4 4' t8 bulbs with a tank depth of 32". my anubias and java ferns do alright but my jave ferns have been slow growing and i want something to help cover up some things

Yeap very slow growing...make sure you have plenty of N and you can do some DYI Co2 to help it along. Since there arent any fish, no need for a drop checker. Just remove the co2 at night.

i guess i was mislead a bit from what i found looking around on the web said it was slow growing under low light but with higher light and nutrients it can take over a tank?
i have no experience with this so thats why i'm asking the community. but like said before i am just trying to get this to take hold before i put it in with my cichlids, my severum eats my plants.

when you say N do you mean nitrogen?
i have a part bottle of plant gro iron enriched 0.15-0-0 would this work or am i going to cause algae?
for Co2 i did the 2l bottle with yeast, sugar and water before but i don't have a diffuser i just used a air stone. it is something i could grab if it makes a noticeable difference.

sorry everyone about the question the only real planted tank i have had was my 20g with anubias and java fern. i got it to work had a lot of problems with algae but got my anubias to bloom.

now i have just kept these plants with my cichlids

14w t8 sunglow bulb 8-10 plus some indirect sun light
i bought a nutrafin co2 system the yeast one with diffuser
dosing plant gro 0.15-0-0 as directed on the back
have a power head running for circulation
tank temp 78 f

I would just go with flourish excel for a co2 supplement. It's much easier to dose and you don't need a ton of co2 in this situation. DIY would work too though.
