OK Thanks. You are using the test strip version and not the type with the glass test tubes. In your situation, assuming the results are accurate, I'd would just continue to let the cycle run. If your using some type of neutralizer to help the fish, you should be fine until you reach full cycle. I don't really think or more less frequent and/or volume of water changes is going to help (or at least I can prove) and it may be a factor of just time to let it cycle.

I mostly use the test tubes with the droplets added from the api master test kit but in addition I also have some test strips I use if I need to verify results. im going to do a large water change today and see if that effects the levels, I will try to keep the fish happy, the prime has been working so hopefully the little bacteria start colonizing! I know they are slow especially since my tank is cold for the Goldies.
 
I was thinking tropic, does make a dif.
