Another pregnant ray question

I've got another question, maybe someone could help?
I separated my female that was getting chewed on.
Why doesn't my male chew on my 1 year old female? Yet!
He doesn't mess with her at all.
So, when a female matures, does she give off a scent to breed?

having the same thoughts on the "scent" thing. I have joined up a male recently and he is just targeting one female but both females i have on the tank are mature and proven. Could also be that the other is not "hot""yummy" for him to court.
 
Does she look pregnant or just well fed?
I just can't tell.
The male is still trying but I don't think he figured it out yet.
What do you guys think?
