You want it close to the main water level most cases, so you don't have the "falling water" sound. I see you only have 1 hole, what are you doing for returns?
theres 1 box on each side of the tank no? 1 return 1 drain? or am I seeing things again 
I try to have it 20mm below the overflow box, Makes the least sound I found. My friend uses no pipe and it sounds like a toilet is going off 24/7 lol.

What size is your drain? 2 drains and 2 returns would have been a lot easier to work with IMO, but the tank is very nice.
1.5" drain can handle tons of flow, so all is not lost. My only question is why is the return in an overflow box by itself. If there is not a drain in the box (or weir) then won't waste just slowly build up in there since there is no way for it to get out? Why wouldn't they just do a bulkhead near the top with no weir? I'm just confused by the tank design I guess.
Ok, I missed in your other post that you had 2 drains. Now I understand. With 2x1.5" drains it should easily handle twice the pump you suggested.
