Found a quiet spot where the water came up past the trees. Put him in the water and he sank to the bottom. Watched him for a minute and then reached in and touched him so he wouldn't just sit there within easy reach. He jerked, and then seemed to realize that he had unlimited space and was last seen swimming as fast as possible towards deeper water. And best part is, this bit of stupidity on someones part only cost me about $10 in supplies and a couple hours time. I count it as a win.
Hopefully it was really a wild puffer she had.
