Another sad day in Ray keeping

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well if you read my answer to riane you will know I found another dead pup so she had 6 which I would have thought is big for a first litter. Maybe that has some bearing on why only one made it.
Bottom pic is the survivor

Jim, take it from someone with litterally some of the worst luck on this board, you have to look at the positive. Your population increased by 1. I'd kill to have a pup. My only black girl has already swollen up once, saw movement, then nothing. Just like 50%+ of the pregnancies here. Most of mine don't even get to the point of pups and if they do, they die within the first month of being born.

Been at this over 5+ years with rays and I think I've produced that many pups (5).

I've asked for help, I've rebuilt, I've changed everything. I still can't get my rays to produce regularly and I have well over a dozen mature adults.

Don't want to hijack your thread or turn this into a pitty party, just want you to know even though you're going through a streak of bad luck some of us look up to the success you have had. 19 pups? I could only dream of producing that many over the last half decade. That much luck in the first 3 years? I was still struggling to even keep rays alive after the first 3 years.

Keep doing what you're doing, cause whatever you're doing is obviously working. 19 is a hell of a number. Isn't that a pup every other month since you've been doing this? That is VERY impressive.

Hi dbjunkie
Mate that is so nice and thanks so much for the lovely comments. I have read all your posts regard your issues and all the hard work you have put into the hobby. Did not realise quite how much bad luck you have had though. Like you said this is not a pitty thread and I don't want any. This is all about information sharing and talking to people about our experiences. And talking to people like you my friend helps to keep the confidence in what we do. I wish you all the luck in the world mate and hope you have all the success that you clearly deserve in the future buddy

Well I think the survivor is female will get her out in a few days to find out for sure. Just letting her/him settle for now. Looking happy enough. If it is female I may well keep her.
