Perhaps "is my tank setup ok?" question is getting boring. But I really need suggestion before I stocked my newly purchased 261 gal.

Anyway, I got tired of cichlids and want to try shoaling fishes.
So,this is the setup in mind.

6 X Clown loaches
6 X Silver dollar
4 X Tiger Barbs

Now, I would like to add a group of either Balas, rainbows or Iridescent Shark .

But which one and how many of them can I fit in?

Should I cross off anything in my current list?
I would rather cross off silver dollars and T barbs if you think that there's no sufficient place for Balas/rainbows.

I hope this is the right thread for this questions, as I think of any other suitable threads.

well, red tail sharks only get 6in./15cm. I don't think they are schooling type fish though. bala sharks are schooling fish and get about 30cm. But I think you should get more clown loaches or other types of loaches/botias and skip the sharks completely. If you want sharks, rainbow sharks do well with clown loaches.

As for iridescent sharks... they can get really big... like up to 4 feet long (that might be solely in the wild though and not in aquariums.) They also have a tendency to spook really easily and so run into things. So barbs might be a little to darty for them. And they have poor eyesight. That said, I have one with some cichlids and arulius barbs. I just got the barbs last night and so far, they have left my shark alone... but they do worry me that they might nip at the shark too much when they get a little bigger and more comfortable with the tank.

As for balas, they get to like 15 inches and rainbows get to about 6 inches. Don't really know anything else about them as I haven't had them before.

Good luck and let me know what you decide to get.

Iridescent Shark is completely out off my list (I have checked their size.....)

I figure I could keep 1 bala though, but it would be cruel wouldn't it since they are schooling fish....

I have kept a rainbow and it was aggresive, not sure how they do in groups.

I was thinking the alternative of groups of tinfoil barbs or couple of Flying fox.

Has anypne kept a Bala alone in a 260 gal? Will they do fine?

Sorry, if I am a little persistent for Bala (really like them), but might have to postponed it if my tank size doesnt allow it.

Hi,what size tank are you keeping your Iridescent Shark.

Is it a grow- out tank for that little fella or are you planning to upgrade?

So right now, I have mine in a 60 gal... I know, that's way too small but my shark is only about 5 inches. For the time being, I will keep him in that tank... but will eventually either have to get a much bigger tank or (unfortunately) get rid of him. He was my first really cool fish and so I really don't want to get rid of him... but I also don't want to hurt him by keeping him in too small of a tank. When I originally got him, I was told he would be fine in a 20 gal. (That was my first tank.) Well, the other fish in there would spook him and he would ram into the wall of the tank so many times that he would tear up his nose. So I did some research and found out that he needs a much bigger tank... but I don't have the room for a really large tank and thought that I could at least move him to a 60 gal for the time being. I would love to get a huge tank... but I would have to move either to a house or a ground level apt and I can't really do that right now... so for the time being, he should be fine where he is at.

Lol, sounds like Iridescent Shark is a really a cool fish.

Now, I seem to have the urge to cross off everything in my list and make my new tank
Iridescent/Bala only tank.

Wait,...I seem to have strayed from my current objective......clown loaches, barbs....yes....
Multiple tank syndrome is kicking :nilly:
