Sorry if this is a silly question but why do some Dovii have little facial dots/spots and others have thick connected lines?? Is it a regional thing? I noticed Rapps' recent F1 Dovii all have the lines. Since I don't know my Dovii's origin, I was thinking maybe he could have lost his facial lines due to being a higher "F number". But then again, for all I know he could be F0 or F1 . I'm happy with him either way...he seems like a high quality Dovii. Just curious if anyone knows.

Here's what I'm talking about.

My Dovii:

i think it must have something to do with the locale of the strain. i've always wondered the same thing balton so no, it's not a silly question!

personally i prefer the thicker facial wormings like GREENTERRA's dovii.

im gunna throw this one out there.

i think the lines could be more prominant in each blood pool?? you were saying about rapps' F1 nicaragua having the lines, possibly yours could be bred from each gene pool (say costa rican father, niacaraguan mother). or it could be from the costa rican race.

but then again looking at your dovii, i see alot more nicaraguan in him than i do costa rican, which could suggest that my idea about the cross gene pool is correct??

i dont know... im gunna go and have a look at a few costarican dovii and see what i see, also going to go and look at my own F1 lago nic.

ok heres a pic from rapps, which i beleive to be a costa rican dovii, cause of the gold mixes in his colour.

as you can see it does sort of have the majority of lines not spots...

P.S. greenterra, whats the history of your dovii?

As with Balton, I couldn't say? Far from F0 being here in Australia. They have not been allowed to be imported for quite some time now.
The other difference I have noted before is the size of the spots within the scales especially closer to the dorsal fin.

looking back over the pics, i think that, balton's dovii is likely to be fresh from the lago nicaragua gene pool, where as with greenterra's, i can not recall seeing another fish like it, yours has got to have the biggest 'lines' on the gill plate, so if anything i think greenterra's could be a cross between gene pools.

both are cracking fish none the less.

they are fantastic! never seen anything like that in australia!
whats the go why are they on the ban list? surely they wouldnt pose a threat to local species? i they wouldnt bve able to live anywhere in victoria or tasminia id imagine?

Don't you mean that Dovii has facial and gill spots, not lines? He also has the football shaped body.
