Another simple project.

It's very likely a male syn and a 100 gallon rubber maid, or timber frame w/pond liner pond, will be joining the family..and maybe a few other surprises...

The center brace of the 90 the midevil and parrot are in is coming loose from the tank. I've drained it about 6", hopefully it will keep untill I can buy a rubbermaid tub Thursday (payday).

Mid devil looks ready, but not much color on him, was he faded in the clip? My KKP's fade in and out, but mostly are blood red. The smallest male KKP though is always pale.

The midevil is faded in that clip, normally he's a really nice red, he's also skinnier than I'd like. No eggs yet thank god, I'd much prefer them to wait til I get them into a 100gal rubbermaid. The tank is half full atm and seems to be holding up fine so far.

Quick ?

Do you know what the parents of your female sb tex were? Her Sb gene could be just a deformity and not a hybrid and by producing sb fry could mean she just has strong genes. When I bred one of my parrots to a fh x midevil the growouts all looked different alot of them had more parrot features. I have one that is parrot shaped with red eyes and a closed mouth and another that looks like an orange fh. Also wouldn't breeding one of your sb texas to a synspilum produce a good % of sterile males?

I do not know what her parents were, I assume they were hybrids themselves, however I do know she was the product of some ones rt/srt project. I sincerely doubt she is a naturally occuring pure species sb fish. Nor do I think your fh/midevil X parrot cross was anything out of the ordinary, any initial cross like that will produce wildly varying types. And yes texas X synspila will produce 100% sterile males, as will texas X red devil or midas. The females however will be fertile.

Odd that we're disscussing the finer points of sb texas in this thread.

Sorry for the derail. You have some sweet fish here good luck with your breedings

Thanks loureyes, np on the slight derail...I may come across like a crotchety old man at times, but I truly don't mind answering questions.

Trust me I know it's hard to find info on the net. You really don't want to know how many man hours I've put into studying fertility & sb questions concerning hybrids.
Many things I discovered about the sb gene (as known in bp, fh etc.) were due largely to test breedings I've conducted. I'm still learning, but one thing I do know for sure, it always shows up in the first gen, usually in large numbers, I put it at the 50% mark. I've heard some people claim different results..but three test runs later I'm convinced.
