Another tankmate turned upon... WARNING...

My 16" african arowana was beat up and had an eye torn out by my gars (3x tropicals and 1x florida in the 500g with it, all 18-23"). It's still alive but I had to move it to my 150g.

My gars are going totally aggressive lately.

Be careful, they might snap when you least expect it...

...was aro just being his regular aro self? any sign of weakness or anything beforehand?

I did not notice anything beforehand, and african aro's are supposed to be good gar tankmates. I've had this one for years with no issues. Lately my gars have just been killing or trying to kill all their tankmates (australian lungfish is the exception).

Did the florida participate or was it just the tropicals?

I would prob just go ahead and have that be a gar only tank before something goes down and you loose a very good stock.

Dude I used to feed those gars everyday if not every other day to keep them mellow. if I wnet away for a week I'd come home and everyone was torn up. You may want to add a bunch more fish in the tank to help keep the aggression down. Perferably ones with no teeth

Yeah, I am going to make sure the gars are getting enough food from now on. I think they are but who knows.
