another update of intermedia..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maybe someone can educate me here, I thought the common name "Xingu" was just a reference to the collection point where cichla melaniae were found? As in chichla melaniae were pretty much only found in the xingu river? I would like to know if I am wrong on that. Either way, watching the growth of this fish, I can tell you it looks 100% to the "xingu" I had, like 100%, who knows though maybe I got an intermedia by mistake, or maybe they just look similar but mine grew pretty fast and to my understanding intermedia stay pretty small.

Maybe I wasn't clear on my question. I am sure more bass are found in the xingu river than just "xingu" or what I think are melaniae. So I guess what I am asking, why are we attributing the "xingu" label to cichla melaniae? The way it is reading in this forum is cichla xingu = cichla melaniae, but why does cichla melaniae = cichla xingu when I believe there are other species of bass found in that river system as well? Is it because this species holds the largest population in that system, am I wrong and is xingu the only bass in that system, or because they are not found in any other systems? I think I might be nit-picking, but just want to make sure xingu and melaniea are the same species because I thought they were. Sometimes seen them referred to as miraniae but I believe it may be a translation/documentation issue.

You are ok! We know that the fish are Xingu. They were sold as Intermedia by a vendor to peacock bass collector on this forum!

unfortunately, they are turning out to be regular Xingu instead of the "intermedia" they were thought to be. I am sure the vendor will make good on the error..
