Another way to make RT

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am raising about 20 babies from a batch like that. I paired off a SRT with a Red Devil. i did it hoping the fade gene would come out stornger. The RD also had a nice knot on his head I'm hoping to get out of him too.

a red texas isnt made of one cross(unless you cross with a red tex)
its made of a few steps of diffrent crosses and line breeding.

I have seen some f1(am I using this right?) red texas that was pretty good. But I know most of the time you would probably have to breed it back to one of the parent species

^^ Agree. It's hard to make a RT. Very hard but you most likley will have to breed it back to a parent.

Only problem is red devil genes are strong and most of the time come out dominant, they usually take on a lot of the red devil head shape etc..

Really really red KKP x Carpintis -> regular Carpintis -> offspring Carpintis x KKP...keep crossing the offspring into the KKP until it starts showing up the red fade color. Then it might be a good time to change KKP around because you don't want too strong of 1 genetic as this will cause your fish deformity.

Im just wondering if you had a very red red devil and bred it with a texas would it still work and be a red texas?

That'll might work, but most red tex that I have seen that are being crossed from a red devil is more orange than red.

It's all line breeding. A good start would be carpinte X king kong parrot. Then when you get fry from that pair cross a fry back to one of the parents. After that it's up to you how many times you want to line or inbreed them.

At this point anybody wanting to breed red texas should just order from cjbarth IMO. Then you can cross those fry with whatever you want and skip the first step. You can either breed them with parrots / texas / or red texas from a different batch for good results.
