Did you catch it yourself???
I catch gar more often than catfish, while fishing for cats, of course.

In lakes, usually about two to three feet below the surface, at night, using chicken livers as bait. they put up a hell of a fight, but it is a real ***** to get that hook out of their damn mouths.

owning a gar is one thing, pwning one is something totally different!

I used to have a gator gar, when I lived in Tenn. had to get rid of it, though, outgrew my aquarium.

Why I asked is I see you have your location noted as Florida. If you caught it yourself, outside of the pan handle, (Where things can get tricky) it is 100% guaranteed to be a Florida gar (Lepisosteus platyrhincus)

I'm not the one that posted the original pic, but that's good to know. FL Gar are the smallest of the gar species, right?

To hell with dishing out the bucks, when I'm ready to keep a gar, I know where I'm gettin it!

I always thought it would be cool to start an aquarium of a fl ecosystem. gar, small and largemouth bass, catfish and bullhead, and an alligator snapping turtle. bluegill might be kinda tricky, with the gar and the turtle. but I suppose if you caught some big ass blue gill, and everything else small...

Sorry guys Ive been busy, This guy in town doesn't want it anymore and he emailed me asking if I would take it. They sold it to him as a gator gar. That happens A LOT around here! There are so many people who think they have one and its just the Florida/Spotted.

hey KILROY...when i got my first gar(longnose) it had a crustacean like parasite on its eye and the LFS operator was unsure of how to get it off. he didnt want to sell at first he was going to dump it in the trash. i got him to sell it to me for 50% off and i took him home and used a coppersafe product if i remember correctly it dropped off in a day and hes been fine ever since. i'm not sugg to use a copper product, but you should post a pic i bet these guys(poly, jordan, or solomon) would ID it and sugg. proper meds in a heart beat.

i hope getting a pic of it isn't too hard to do. good luck!
