i was reading a thread last night were the guy had a hoplias australis that kinda looks like yours and the under jaw was kinda inbetween being v shape and u shape check it out its a very good and interesting thread http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/hoplias-lacerdae.299411/
It's a Mala, meaning the one in your post, or the pictures I've provided? The way you phrased it, it could mean both. And if you mean mine...told ya, lol. All the indicators of it being the most common sub. were there...
The picture u provided of ur fish is a mala. Sorry if I wasn't clear. The pic I posted is of Lacardae and just to show the difference. Also to what to look for when trying to ID these fish. Your right but the jawshot got me fooled lol. But the blotchy pattern and green eyes aren't typical of mala as well. When u see that and the askew undeshot jaw then could easily say not a mala.
