It is possible for there to be aliens, but for them to automatically know ALL the intricacies of our brain, I feel is impossible. It is amazingly complex, and for something to magically know how to use electronic shocks to make it move and use all its internal organs when dead, Is impossible. If the human was alive, but deranged, that might work.

Perhaps it will be nanotechnology rather than a virus. The little bots don't need to know how to achieve the goal, just what the goal is and they will trial and error their way to achieving it.

i suppose i would just die

this made me laugh so hard.. I suppose I would be in the same boat since a 8th month pregnant woman isn't going to be of much help nor be able to get away from impending danger as fast. I'd just have to hole up in the woods somewhere and hope I don't get eaten/killed.

I find it highly unlikely though that something like this would happen but won't say it's impossible, because you never know. I find it more likely that something would happen to force people out of the cities causing hysteria and the killing of others though, like someone else already mentioned.

It wont be undead people, It would be crazy people who attack everyone. Including other crazy people. That is entirely possible. Ebola is thought to make the host squirm about flinging blood everywhere, possibly in an attempt to spread the virus... It would just be to a larger extent than that.

Yes but ebola kills the victin insanely fast..plus they're living during this fever/muscle spasm part totally not the living dead.

As sumo said all the reported abductions, and if true, god knows how many unreported, could all have been for this purpose. The human brain is only complex because we dont truly understand it. Electrical impulses arent magic. Don't we use them now to control advanced prosthetic limbs? Hypothetically, if the parasite were able to obtain oxygen independently then the organs would be redundant. Working normally to keep the host alive but if damaged by gunfire 'killing' the host. At this point the body might start to decompose, but that wouldn't help you there and then. So you have a brain dead human being puppeted by the parasite. Parasite keeps normal body functions running to keep host alive. If the body is killed parasite has a week or so of use before it becomes too degraded to use. To stop the zombie in it's tracks permanently needs a head shot to destroy the parasite. Things like gut wounds wouldn't bother it for ages till the host starved. Loss of limbs would disable it but not kill outright. Decapitation might kill it but only if the parasit was connected down the spine also.

Yes, It would have to evolve a slower kill rate. And I realize they are still alive. That would be my whole point.

I really don't think aliens are abducting people and researching how to turn them into zombies. I never said they were magic, I said for an organism to automatically know how to control a whole human body without ever having any contact with humans before would have to be. A limb is one thing, a whole body and recognition of a prey item is another. If the person were alive, It would only need to alter the signals as opposed to creating whole new ones. That would be a much simpler task. Essentially a living person that couldn't think straight. That is completely possible. As for killing, If it was one of the undead ones, you really wouldn't need to kill it, just render it harmless.

I dont think aliens are abducting people. But if they were (we are talking about how it COULD happen remember) that would remove your 'automatically know with no contact' point. Magically was your word not mine, I just quoted you... everything you say is from your (our) understanding. If an alien race were here kidnapping and studying us without us knowing (barring a few accidents) then obviously they are much more advanced than we are. How does dead or alive make a difference in ease of control? Either way the parasite has to press the right buttons and know which buttons to press in the first place. Plus if the person was alive; deranged or not, the parasite would have free will to contend with. How do you propose to render a zombie harmless? Take off both its legs and it will still come for you same with the arms. Body shots wont stop it, only slow it down. without destroying the brain and with it the parasite, short of total dismemberment all you are gonna do is slow it down. Even if you do put enough lead into one to halt its purpose, what are you going to do about the other half dozen closing on you? And the one thats 3 feet behind you, but you haven't noticed yet cus you're desperately trying to jam a new magazine into your gun before you become lunch. One shot one kill, if you waste time trying to disable them you're toast!

It would be much easier for something to alter thoughts and make someone go crazy while still alive, because then It would still have organs going, so the parasite/disease wouldn't need to control anything but thoughts. Yes, I did use the word magic, however you did not quote me. You stuck that word with another topic and called it good. Rendering a zombie defenseless... I was referring to where you said dacapitation would only matter if it was connected to the spine... Cut its head off and even if it is alive you don't really have to worry about it.

But if the host is only braindead and the parasite is acting like some kind of life support machine then the organs would still be going. 2 questions... 1. How on earth do you know it's easier to control thoughts than motor function? 2. How do you intend to decapitate every zombie you come across?

1. viruses and parasites already do to an extent. Its called going crazy.
2. katana. Or sneak past it.

1. viruses and parasites already do to an extent. Its called going crazy.
2. katana. Or sneak past it.

1. Theres a difference between going crazy and actively trying to eat people. Having control over a host is more beneficial than to create a raging lunatic thats just as likely to dash its brains out on a wall than get its next meal. Aim is to survive and the best chance of that is not the random actions of a crazy person.
2. If you are beset by a group of zombies you may decapitate the 1st, 2nd at a push, but im quite sure if theres half a dozen, average joe swordsman isn't gonna go 6 for 6. Swords can get stuck in bodies, wont be long before its covered in gore and slippery. You may not get chance to sharpen it before you need it again. Sneaking only works if they haven't already seen/heard/smelled you.
