ANSORGII and TEUGELSI pics pls!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
there are some characteristic differences between ansorgii and endli endli. you guys suck :j/k: ok ok i'm just kidding :D couldn't resist :nilly: pls don't come after me lol after all, sharing info is why we're here :headbang2

the head of the ansorgii does look similar to an endli endli. major difference is in the pattern, ansorgii has the characteristic two rows of squarish blotches on the sides. sometimes the pattern can be faded (eg due to enviornment), but the characteristic pattern is there. so as long as its not faded to the point that it appears patternless, should be able to use that to distinguish the fish.

here's the pic in Aqualog Polypterus (copyrighted material, shown here for reference only)

nice post man, the pattern really is different

so is the teugelsi part of the palamas complex?

thanks :)
if you're asking if the teugelsi is part of the same 'group' of fish as those in the palmas complex, the answer is maybe. i'm still not completely sure if the japanese one is teugelsi or not, although i'm definitely leaning toward that being the case. and if thats the case, the head of teugelsi seems to be very different.

However, teugelsi is not part of the palmas complex in the sense that it's not a subspecies of P.palmas.

Just to toss in a word or two on the subject of Polypterus teugelsi...

According to the FishBase article (based on information from the original description of P. teugelsi), the fish should:

have an unique coloration comprising a network of black marks on an olive background on the dorsal and dorsolateral surface of the body, an orange belly and black pectoral fins

So far I have not seen the all-black pectoral fins on any of the pictures of purported P. teugelsi that I have encountered on the web. Whether this means that they are not P. teugelsi (which I consider likely) or if it means that the species description is incomplete is still open for debate.
