This is the best stuff I've used. You got to be patient takes about a week. The ants will attract to it but once it takes effect you'll never have the problem again.
I don't know if you have found a solution yet or not. I have ants that come in every summer under the patio door of my 3rd floor apartment. I buy a product called Rid-a-Bug. I works great for me. I spray it all around the door jams and no more ants. I think the key to getting rid of your ant problem is to find where the ants are coming in at and stop them from coming in. You can put what ever you want on or around you aquarium but this will just make the ants stay away for that tank. They will find another source of food and or water. Best to eliminate how they are getting in then to try and stop them from getting on a specific area or item.
Lots of great advice! I'll try a few out this week. Problem is, i think they're coming in through the wall behind my stand and it's kinda hard to see back there.. I didn't think about ants when we put together the stand or positioned the tank...
Thanks everyone! I'll let you know if any of the solutions worked.
I know this is strange but I have a true phobia of ants, lol. Anyway you can get this sticky stuff, it's a liquid and put it in a dish and the ants are attracted to it, they take it back to the other ants and it kills them. That is the safest way. Oh I just can't stand ants. lol
I use this spray from Ortho. You have to treat your baseboards around the first floor of the house or wherever else you think they are likely to find their way in.
Did you ever find a fish safe solution to your ant problem? I just got home from work today and was greeted by hundreds of ants in the crevices between my lids and the tank rim. It's been storming a lot lately and I think that's what drove them inside. I'm going to treat the yard as soon as it's dry enough but I could use an indoor solution.
