Yeah you'll end up with a mix of long/regular bodie's, short bodie's, and some bonsai's. Bonsai's just have a double dose of the short body gene's otherwise they are the same as a short bodie's. As for pairing I would recommend adding in a cave like structure to the tank that only the female can get into. If he decides to get mean with her she needs a place she can escape to that he won't be able to pursue her into. I also recommend using a divider at the start so they can see each other without being able to reach each other.I’m gonna try and breed my male bonsi to a proven Female bonsi, will the off spring be bonsi or a mix with mabye more highest chance of bonsi or can it too much defect. Also when I get her if they have trouble pair up what can I do

Also a few more things I've learned is that another good idea is to place the hidey hole for the female next to of close to a piece of slate rock or plate so that it's easier for the female to tend to the young even if the male is being mean. Also make certain the breeding area is as far away from the filter intake as possible, if it's too close the male's sperm will just get sucked into the filter before it's got a chance to fertilize the eggs. Third tip I got is to add in a fake, bushy type of, plant or heavy rockwork near the breeding area so the fry have a place to escape the parents if need be. When I bred mine I had this as a set up. Lol tank looks totally different now tho. Makes me miss Jr. He was such a beautiful lil Petco FH lol.Yea I plan on using some pvc after I take the divider out

Wow.He was a beauty, from what i've heard i've always thought chain stores in the US only carry low quality FH.Also a few more things I've learned is that another good idea is to place the hidey hole for the female next to of close to a piece of slate rock or plate so that it's easier for the female to tend to the young even if the male is being mean. Most of the time yes they do. It's just very rarely you'll find a hidden gem tucked away in some chain store tank. Lol I got Jr. at only a ¼in long and covered in ich. Healed him up and got him to grow from ¼in all the way to 10in within just 2 years.Wow.He was a beauty, from what i've heard i've always thought chain stores in the US only carry low quality FH.

O well he may be gone now but atleast he left me a couple of daughters behind. Still growing out a few fish to be possible mates for my Fader female (Star). I got 2 Trimac/FH crosses and a texas cichlid so hopefully out of the 3, one atleast turns out to be male.
Lol same. Atleast a 1 out of 3 odds should be pretty good odds for getting a male. The others will probably get rehomed after I get a male put of the group. Lol now it's just down to playing the waiting game to grow out these lil guys from 1in to 4in.The legacy of the Jr lives on!
Hope it all goes well with the project.
