I also have 2x 2 Bilb T5's, but they are all white bulbs. Would you be willing to share a pic on this thread to show the difference in which the blue bulbs could make? I might change over.

Ya, Ill take pictures tonight so you can tell the difference and get them posted. Ill take pic os just white light, then just blue light then with both white and blue.. Ill do it without my background so the blue in my background doesnt affect the pic.
It will be later tonight before Im abe to take them, wife took camera with her to work..

Thanks Bcfd I would love to see the pics? Question for you so a background can effect the look of the tank as well?

Thanks Nige Get back home safe, buti would love to see your pics as well. So you dont have any algae problem? i was reading and they were saying under 65,000k i think will cause algae i dont know how true that is. what is your advice and opinion on that, or should ask what wattage or type of bulb should i get that want cause a algae problem to achieve my goal.

Actually got it all at petsmart. I actually had a lifeglo but preferred the higher white and blue of the powerglo bulb and the actinic. I find the actinic help with deeper tanks like the 90 gallon.

Fixture was about $150 and each bulb was around $25, so $200 all in. Very low heat and superslim profile.

I don't have any algae problems at all, but there are a number of factors at play for that result. My tank is very lightly stocked because the nature of my work travel ensured I must set up a low maintenance system.

Relative to the stocking level, I have big filtration. The tank runs 2 x Eheim 2260's. One has the standard Eheim filtration pack, while the other has a piece of coarse sponge, big bag of sintered glass noodles and the rest of the volume filled with matrix.

I feed the fish sparingly and I have just a few hardy plants to help remove any other nutrients. Another important consideration for algae control is photoperiod. I have my lights set on a timer so the tank gets 9 hrs light only. I change about 10-20% water every 3 weeks or sometimes a bit longer between changes.

What is the policy on this site about putting in links to other sites? I am in a couple of other sites and can post a link to the journal of how I set up my tank (if that is permissible). Even though I have changed the 'scaping since then, it shows the setup and the lighting...

Cheers,
Nige
