To get them to breed right.

You are suppose to have 2 seperate tanks the mal and females cannot be beside each others. Then when your ready to breed you put the male in a tank be the female so they can see each other. The male should make a bubble nest then you move the female to the tank and hopefully you get baby bettas!

in theory if you put the young together in a tank to grow out and never seperate them they will not fight

Not really true. Normally, you will be raising your young together in a tank. As the fry grow, the bigger males will really start harassing the other fry. It's a constant thing...remove the awful bullies, the next biggest fish start bullying. Females are 100% not immune to this. Some of the most aggressive bettas I've bred were big females. Those big females often end up killing males during spawning if he's not doing what she wants. You have to watch them like a hawk.

Eventually, you'll get all of the nasty fish weeded out as the spawn grows, and the fish that are left will be able to live together fine, provided the tank has java moss to provide adequate hiding space.

But there is absolutely no way to keep an entire spawn together unless you're going to be keeping them in a very large tank.

I bred bettas when I was a teenager for about 6 years. Honestly it's pretty easy..........

I'm skeptical.

I really want to breed bettas, but fortunately I gave it enough thought to realize that I wouldn't be able to provide good homes for the fry; that means enough space as well as heating for each one. :(

yeah i was too. i cant remeber were i read this but i was like yeah right. then they had pics. the bettas looked great. it was awesome:headbang2

apparently the key is to keep the dad in. he will help keep the fighting way down. if u remove him u will have a bunch of fighting

I've done the "leave the dad in" thing, as well. As I said above, it only works for a while.

i had a male and female betta when i was younger and had to seperate them not knowing they would fight. so i put it in a net breeder for a while then jumped out one day and breed with the male and i got betta babys
