Is the cat spade/neutered? We have like 3 boxes throughout the house so he always has a spot to make.
Yes he has been neutered for almost as long as we have had him.I will give the multiple box idea a try and take it from there.

Good, but if he doesn't improve within a day or two, it's time for the vet. I'm a vet myself, and I'm always impressed by how well animals hide their pain. They are much more stoic than humans are. He may be hiding a real problem.

When my friends cat started doing this she took her into the vet and it turned out she had a UTI and also had diabetes. Definately would take him in to have his levels checked.

Yes and even though they need us,they are tougher than we are.

Will do.In fact he is overdue for a check up.

I have three cats. One is an older male 7 or so. He was doing this exact thing. The problem was his scent glands, inside his 'buttox'. He was neutered when I bought him from humane society at 2 yrs. old. Anyway, the vet had to 'express' the stuff from the glands. WAS EXTREMELY GROSS ! ! ! :nilly::nilly: The thing is, if I hadn't brought him in, vet said the glands could actually have BURST!, :nilly: could have caused serious infection or death. The reason they don'y want to go potty in their box= they associate the pain with the cat poo box after a while!
